Mastering the Art of Skincare Layering

What’s the most effective way to apply your skincare products? A few thoughtful edits can transform the way your products perform, revealing your best skin ever.

The rule of thumb: serums first, creams last. Serums under creams, allowing each layer to absorb seamlessly. Prescription treatments are a special case, apply these immediately after toner so their active ingredients can work uninterrupted.

Where Oils Belong in Your Routine

Oils are the finishing touch that transforms a routine into a ritual. Lightweight oils sit beautifully after serums, before moisturizer, locking in hydration without weight. Richer oils go last, over creams, sealing everything in and leaving a subtle, coveted dewy glow.

Using a facial oil as a cleanser? Begin your routine here, oil-based cleansing dissolves makeup and impurities before your water-based cleanser preps the skin for the layers to follow.

Timing Is Key

Patience pays. Wait 1–5 minutes between layers to prevent pilling. And remember - less is more.

Your Essential Layering Ritual:

  • Oil-based cleanser

  • Water-based cleanser

  • Toner

  • Enzymes / exfoliators (1–2x per week)

  • Serums

  • Spot treatments (as needed)

  • Retinol (PM)

  • Moisturizer

  • Oils

  • Eye cream

  • Sunscreen (AM)

  • Lip serum

Skincare isn’t a just a routine, it’s a self-care ritual.
